I mentioned a while back that Rob Loder-Symonds was part of a crew that was going to try and break the world record for rowing across the Atlantic. Well, they've done it - you can read Rob's account of it here.
This is a photo of Rob in training.

and here's the boat, La Mondiale, three miles from the finish.

33 days, 7 hours and 30 minutes. I dread to think of the state that their bodies must be in. Mind you, I guess each of the rowers must feel he can do anything now.
La Mondiale will be used in two further world record attempts. You can read about the plans on the team's website.
Listening to the radio this morning, I learned that today will see the fourth Russian Winter Festival in Trafalgar Square.

Blinis (Russian pancakes) and pirozhkis (Russian pies), borsch (beetroot soup) and shashlik (Russian kebabs)... I like the sound of that. I'm likely to be flying to Moscow for work this week, so it's almost an obligation to pop down and join in the fun.
There's information about the festival here and here.
Oops. I think I may have lost my mobile phone.
I was at the COC Thank You Party last night, where I met up with lots of the people who helped at the centres over Christmas.
I was feeling a bit under the weather (a work friend gave me her cold on Friday) and was stoked on cold tablets, so the booze went to my head. I haven't been able to find my phone this morning and I've tried calling it a couple of times with no success.
Dagnabbit.
Edit: I've just received a phone call from one of the organisers. I left my phone behind last night and they've found it... now, where's my camera got to?
I just saw the new ad for Eurostar at St Pancras.
When I took Eurostar from St Pancras for the first time, I missed it by five minutes because of traffic on Waterloo Bridge. I'm really fed up that Eurostar has moved from Waterloo to St Pancras.
Oh, and the new ad is misleading; THERE'S NOWT NEW AGE ABOUT THE NEW EUROSTAR STATION!!
Grrrr!
after two weeks without a laptop (I forgot a power cable in Paris in December and my other laptop is being repaired) I'm back online and I've removed the spam comments/trackbacks that had built up since I was last on here.

Now, what was I going to post about? Ah yes. The food at this year's Crisis Open Christmas.
